Sacred spaces should remain sacred.

All of us, regardless of what we look like or where we were born, should feel safe. No child should have to ride a school bus and be afraid of being interrogated by ICE. No cancer patient should fear being ripped from their life-saving IV mid-treatment. No pastor should have to wonder if ICE agents will storm their Sunday service and drag worshippers away mid-prayer. 

Yet that is exactly the fear the Trump administration unleashed.

On January 20, 2025, the Trump administration abruptly and unlawfully gave ICE free rein to arrest people in sacred spaces, threatening their sanctity for everyone, dismantling decades of protections that kept immigration enforcement out of schools, hospitals, houses of worship, and other sensitive community spaces. By handing ICE agents free rein, Trump’s policies harmed places of safety, destabilized families and children, and shattered the trust and safety that hold our communities together. 

This assault on sacred spaces hasn’t just endangered immigrants, it has endangered our nation. 

That’s why Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN) and other courageous community and faith organizations are fighting back.

On April 28, 2025, they joined forces to file PCUN et al. v. Noem et al., represented by Innovation Law Lab and Justice Action Center, demanding the reinstatement of long-standing protections that kept ICE out of these spaces.

We’re standing up for every child, every patient, every parent, every worshipper, and every community member who deserves to live and thrive.  

What’s at stake: Should a kid at school, a patient in the hospital, a family at a Pride parade, or a congregation in prayer have to fear ICE ripping them away from their lives?

We say no. We are fighting to defend sacred spaces, and the right to exist safely, with dignity, in our communities.
