Ian Philabaum.

Ian joined Innovation Law Lab in 2016 after spending a year as the program coordinator for the CARA Pro Bono Project in Dilley, Texas, providing legal services to mothers and children seeking asylum and detained by ICE in the South Texas family detention center. During his time in Dilley, he met hundreds of incredible lawyers and advocates from around the country, including Law Lab's Executive Director, Stephen Manning. Ian was inspired by Law Lab's strategic approach to immigration advocacy and wanted to help build more projects like the one in Dilley at other immigration detention centers around the country. Since joining Law Lab, Ian has helped build legal projects in Oregon, California, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Missouri. As the Director of Legal Organizing, Ian is focused on providing legal services to people detained in the Torrance County Detention Facility in Estancia, New Mexico, and working with partner organizations and volunteers to end immigration detention in the state of New Mexico. Ian received his bachelors degree in Latin American Studies and his Masters degree in Development Practice - both from the University of Arizona, and he is a Department of Justice (DOJ) Fully Accredited Representative. Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, Ian loves living in the southwest where you can find him running, biking, hiking, and celebrating the diverse culture and community of the borderlands.
