Innovation Law Lab’s Statement on the Inauguration of Donald Trump

Yesterday marked the beginning of a new presidential term, and with it came the resurgence of anti-immigrant forces determined to harm our communities.  With the increased harmful rhetoric, policies designed to tear apart immigrant families, and attacks on the dignity and safety of millions, we must continue to work together to support immigrants and refugees.

At Law Lab, we are determined to continue our work to advance immigrant justice for our collective prosperity. In Oregon, we are uniquely equipped to protect our immigrant communities. With sanctuary laws that uphold the safety of residents and programs like Universal Representation, which provides legal services and support for immigrants, we are building a powerful model of justice and liberation. These protections remind us of what’s possible when we come together with purpose and unity.

While we are unsure about what is to come, we know that we will continue to stand with our immigrant communities, challenge systems of oppression, and work tirelessly to build a future where everyone regardless of immigration status can thrive.

Our most valuable power and solutions come from within our communities, our neighbors, our families, and all those who stand united with us. It is the resilience, creativity, and courage of the people that will carry us forward.

Now more than ever, we must unite, organize, mobilize and resist. Together, we will build a world rooted in dignity, equity, and liberation for all.
