Law Lab is a one-of-a-kind legal advocacy organization. We are equal parts lawyer, organizer, and technologist. Not a litigation shop. Not a technology organization. Not a think tank. And no part is separate. We are designed to be a combination of all three, in one organization. Sometimes that makes us a bit hard to understand since we don’t fit neatly into any one box and people may see one or the other dimension of us. Our vision and our ability to focus all of our resources on the same issues at the same time and leverage our expertise and capabilities is what makes us unique and enables us to play a local, regional and national role in immigrant rights and work that defends democracy. 

We believe that the best way to defend your rights, is to use them. We represent individuals for free in court and before immigration agencies to advance access to justice. Law Lab sponsors daily immigration legal clinics for members of Equity Corps of Oregon. Law Lab is a full service provider of direct immigration legal services and offer a full range of immigration legal services through Equity Corps of Oregon. We support civic engagement projects in towns surrounding immigration jails – projects that pursue real solutions that make lives better, without immigration detention. We develop secure regional and national information and service exchanges between direct service providers, impact litigators, and policy advocates.

We move fast with law, technology, systems analysis, and data analytics.  

No nonprofit has a healthier partnership between its staff and board, and no board operates more effectively or with better chemistry or more democratically. The commitment everyone has to our mission is the essential ingredient to our success. Our expert staff is our principal organizational asset. Everyone at Law Lab is mission-driven. We are here for the work and because we believe in what we do. We are a lean operating organization: everything you see from us is produced by us.

That’s Law Lab in a nutshell. We’re equal parts lawyer, organizer, and technologist with no delusions about how hard it is to balance all the pieces. We keep changing and evolving as an organization and would rather make mistakes than stand still. Since we operate our own programs, if something isn’t working as planned, we can adapt and fix it. We change constantly to try to be more effective. We love the work, and along the way, we have created a family of colleagues who truly enjoy working together and are devoted to our unique mission and operating style.
